APP THIS PLEASE!

"It is not our responsibility to inform you of the capabilities you posses. We merely provide the tools and information necessary for the privilege of that discovery for yourself."
- Ingress Charter

Ingress
Maybe you're drifting alone in the ocean. Maybe you're stuck pushing paper in an office. Maybe you're traveling at warp, cutting through space like melted butter. But where you are, or what you're doing doesn't matter. What matters is that something is bothering you, gnawing at you, begging you make a decision that will change your life forever. But before you can figure it out, you realize there's something that's bothering you more.

That door.

You could nearly swear that it wasn't there five seconds ago, but now that you see it, really focus on it, you can't look away. Everything about this door seems to reflect your essence, and either immediately or eventually, you are compelled to open it. Impossible to tell what lingers beyond the darkness of the other side, it could be answers to your questions, a journey you need to make, or just a bid for extra time.

Whatever your reasons for entering, keep them in mind, they may be your only way back.

Ingress is a high fantasy, action and introspection themed RPG played in the Dreamwidth community. Characters enter the world of Averde of their own volition, and must face the reasons for doing so in order to return home.

Ingress is a PG13 community and will contain violent themes in it's battle oriented plots.

In addition to the metaplot, Ingress will be a player-focused game. All player actions will have positive or negative consequences, and players will be encouraged to make decisions to move the game forward.

Check out our Playtest comm and test drive a character, or jump straight into what you need to know.

Ingress opens JULY 1st, 2014. Reserves and Apps are OPEN.

WANTED
anyone.

Game Info

Index of Information

**Game calendar:
There is a 1:1 day ratio in the main communities. 1 ooc day to 1 ic day. (there is no day count in the Adventures community, details provided during events)

Activity Requirements:
Characters will be asked to submit AC (activity check: proof of activity) once per month to stay in the game. Events are expected to be medium to fast paced, due to the adventure themes. Day to day activity may be much slower and open to backtagging. Monthly AC requirement: Two threads per your active character(s). Or one open post per your active character(s).

Adventuring:
All people in this world are encouraged by culture and peers to seek out challenges and rewards, either monetary or less material satisfaction. This often includes the risk taking explorations that are called ‘adventures’. Typically these will be organized events run by moderators or other players, and will be hosted in the Adventure community. Adventuring is a legitimate form of employment in this world setting.

Averde:
The name of the world as known by it’s inhabitants.

Character Limitations:
Characters are allowed to enter the setting with all powers and abilities approved by the mods, so long as they are listed on the character application and do not break the playability of the game.

Dangers of the world:
Averde is a world full of life. Both natively and through pan-dimensional immigration. This includes, but is not limited to humanoid species and alien species. Monsters, fantastical creatures, and strange oddities have all been known to find their way to various corners of the world. It’s a grab bag of culture and that comes with a steep learning curve for those that cannot adapt. While there are local law enforcements, those that wander off on their own sometimes never come back.

Dice Rolls:
Using a randomizing element, designated events will include dice rolls by players to determine the success or failure of a character’s attempts. Check out How to Roll for details.

Hostile Behavior:
Being overtly violent and hostile to other characters will result in imprisonment or significant injury. Ingress volunteers are not just the happy-go-lucky good hearted people that they appear to be. They’re also trained to be the first local defense against harmful outworlders. This means that they carry weaponry and they will neutralize your PC ass if they consider you a threat. If necessary, they always have back up in the form of local law enforcement.

Character Death:
Even with the randomization of dice rolls and the potential for failure, character death is always a player’s choice. Keep in mind that there are no instant respawns in this setting. There will be methods of revival to those with substantial resources, however these methods are rare and expensive.

Ingress:
An organization comprised of volunteers that help recent arrivals who’ve entered this world through the doorways. They assist by providing basic food and housing as well as general information. (Some volunteers are more helpful than others) The resources of the local branch of Ingress are often dependent on how frequently they get ‘outworlders’ and the donations of local inhabitants.

Language Barriers:
The doorways leave one lingering side effect. They allow the character to understand ‘Common’. The standard language of Averde. There are many other languages however, and depending on how long an outworlder stays, it might be in their best interest to try and learn a few.

Law enforcement:
The settings laws and law enforcement will be specific to the current game setting and subject to change for metaplot and character plot influence. However, violent behavior, murder, theft, and other criminal behavior is subject to IC consequences. (oocly: permissions are required for any such plots between players)

Log Format and Tags:
Please use the tagging system provided to your character in the log community and the network community, as well as the player tags in the ooc community. It will make AC much easier! Posting in ingress_logs is required to include:

[for example]
Who: !npc Wyatt
Where: Trowbridge Grocery
When: Day 12
Warnings: none, updates as needed

The sticky post at the top of the Logs community has a copiable template you can use.

Playable Characters:
Ingress is looking for all kinds of characters to explore and influence the world! Canon characters, AU’s, Originals. All are welcomed to apply. **At this time characters native to the world setting are not available to app or play.

Network:
Currently, those who arrive in Ingress are NOT provided with any device that can remotely communicate with one another.

Resources upon Arrival:
Whatever was carried in when your character walked through their door. Opportunities for employment can be found within the setting. The Ingress organization will often seek to help new inhabitants, but ultimately the character’s well being is dependent on their own efforts.

I have other questions that haven't been answered here!

Guide to Roleplaying on Dreamwidth

Welcome to Ingress! This post if for those of you who are playing Journal RP for the first time. We've all been there. It's really different (and very similar) to other types of roleplaying, so here's a step-by-step guide of what to do:

First, create a character journal.

Whether or not you already have a personal account on DW, create a separate account for your character. You'll be using it to post (i.e. roleplay) in all the Ingress communities.

You don't actually have to post anything in your journal, though many players choose to display past applications as that character, or even post short responses to a writing prompt. Here are a few examples you can look at: [personal profile] your_logic_is_impeccable and [personal profile] steadycourse .

Second, get some sweet user pics.

Dreamwidth is kind enough to give free users 15 slots for user pictures, all of which you will probably use to accompany your posts. User pics sometimes add that nice visual expression to the post you've been writing, or even give other players a laugh. Take a look around Hollow Art to see if any icons call to you. Or, if you have a specific actor in mind you'd like to use, check out Find Icons.

Third, understand how the Ingress works.

Of course, make sure to read the rules and everything that's linked to on our profile page. However, if you've never done Journal RP before, you might be wondering, what's the difference between [community profile] ingress_network [community profile] ingress_logs and [community profile] ingress_ooc ?

[community profile] ingress_network is typically where characters can call, text, magically write, or otherwise communicate to each other from a distance. Posts are done in the first-person. However, this community is currently closed because no characters have yet obtained the necessary device to contact others remotely in this world.

[community profile] ingress_logs will be where most of the roleplaying happens, and is for all face-to-face interaction between characters. You roleplay in third-person, describe your actions, and interact. If you've done online roleplaying before, this is probably the format you're most used to.

[community profile] ingress_ooc is the Out of Character community, where you'll be able to talk to other players as you. When you first join Ingress, feel free to make a post here and introduce yourself!

You may also notice that [community profile] ingress_playtest also exists. Playtest is a community we made to test out the dice rolling before the proper game started. We didn't want to delete any of the great things that happened here, so we're keeping the community around. Feel free to not follow or read this community.

Fourth, understand how to post.

When you're posting in the LOGS community, we created a log template that you can use for every time you post. Make sure each of your posts contains these four fields at the top, and then go on your merry way roleplaying what's happening in the scene itself:
  • Who: Who are the characters you know are going to be in this thread? Also mark it as [open] to anyone to join, or [closed] to only those characters you've listed.
  • Where: List the location of the event.
  • When: What day and general time of day is this happening? Keeping track allows players to get a sense of what chronological order events are happening in. After all, you can't be in two places at once.
  • Warnings: Any language, violence. Anything that could be a trigger warning for anyone.
Then, make sure to tag all the players who will be in the thread, including yourself. More likely than not, a tag already exists for every character, so make sure to use the right tag. If one has yet to be made, feel free to create it yourself. Tags are usually the exact name of the character being played.

Finally, resolve character conflicts with the player.

Unlike most online roleplaying games, Ingress actually has a battle system, with dice! Please check out that link to learn how the system affects your character.

What we want to highlight here, is that we never want any player to feel like something is being done to their character without permission. If you're playing the Hulk, and you want to smash Loki, that makes total sense. But you can only have the Hulk smash Loki, if the Loki player is okay with it. If not, then the two of you can figure out why it didn't happen. Maybe Loki was projecting himself as a holograph again and got away. Maybe Loki was too terrified of the Hulk from the first time he got smashed and just JET as soon as he saw the green giant. It's all up to you.

If for some reason, players cannot come to a consensus to how a conflict should resolve, do not hesitate to contact the Moderators. However, we expect that most of the time, players can always work it out.

And that's it! There's always more to learn, but these are the basics to help get you started!

Haitus, Drop, Door Request

Haitus: Do you need a Break from RP for a while?
Please leave a comment with the status update request and character name in the subject, as well as the effective haitus dates and the In Game explanation of your character's disappearance in the body of the comment. Official haitus notifications will exempt you from one month of AC requirements. Characters participating in an ongoing Adventure Event cannot be haitused at will, but they can be removed from play by injury. To be discussed on a case by case basis with the Mod running the event.

Example:
[subject] Haitus: npc!wyatt
[message] Looks like I'm going to be out of town from July 10th to, who knows when! I guess Wyatt must have had an accident while riding a horse, fell off, bumped his head and is currently sleeping off the injury in one of Castle McCleary's spare rooms.

Drop: I've had enough of you and this world!
Things not working out? No harm, no foul. We promise, we still love you! Unfortunately because of premise of the game, your character does not qualify for a return home scenario. All dropped characters are assumed to have met a grizzly fate at the hands of some wandering monster(s) or other kind of terribly sad calamity, the good news is that you can decide how this ending happened. Please leave an official drop comment with status update request and character name in the subject heading, and a brief narration of events that led to your character's death.

Example:
[subject] Drop: npc!wyatt
[message] Sorry guys, I'm really just not feeling the headspace for this character right now. Dropping him effective July 15th. I guess that head injury that he took from his fall from the horse was worse than expected. After several days of delirious fever and delusions, the poor fighter slipped away in the middle of the night, his cold body left to be found by the Castle's servants, or any friend that would like to say final goodbyes.

Door Request: Return the Conquering Hero

Meet your NPCs

Trowbridge
Wyatt
Ingress Representative
Fighter

A trained Fighter (sword and shield), and the general store’s errand runner/bag boy. Wyatt has participated on a number of defending the town adventures, but has not done much traveling due to a restriction placed by the Dame McCleary. Honest, straightforward, curious, strong and stubborn. Except when it comes to his childhood friend and Ingress partner, Addy. A member of the local branch of Ingress, Wyatt volunteers to help Outworlders adapt and adjust to the strange new place they find themselves at, in part, because although he would like to explore and see many new places, he is unable to do so.
Addy
Ingresss Representative
Bard

A self-trained bard, and the local stablehand. Addy loves to sing songs, play her flute and tell stories about places far far away. She loves reading and listening to fairy tales, and imagining all the lives people live across the universes. Teasing her childhood friend Wyatt is one of her favorite activities, though she trusts he knows that she supports him, no matter what type of instrument he refuses to play. Addy joined the local branch of Ingress to help the Outworlders, because her parents were Outworlders themselves, though Addy’s lived in Averde all her life.
Christobal
Ingress Representative; Tavern Owner
Fighter (specialized)

A charming, flirty, man. But with a underlying seriousness that allows for him to handle the deeper philosophical conversations that Outworlders sometimes need in order to discover the destiny of their doorway. Christobal handles most of the adventure party organizing, pairing teams together based on what he thinks would be a good mix. Behind the bar of his Tavern, the Outrageous Owlbear,he also hands out bounties and rewards for completed adventures. Due to an injury that’s left him with a slight limp, it is rare for Christobal to venture out of town these days.
Sophia
Alchemist; Healer
Mage

A mysterious figure. Sophia talks very little about herself and prefers to keep interactions to a professional level with the townspeople and adventures alike. She is the only user of raw world magic in the local area, and the owner of the only magical items shop, Balms and Baubles. For a price, she will consent to healing the injured adventurer’s that return a little worse of wear from their quests.
Cornelius
Merchant; Castle Archivist
Scholar

A Pragmatic and shrewd businessman, Cornelius will make trades with Outworld adventurers for items and supplies that might otherwise be difficult to acquire. His investments in the various shops and trades of Trowbridge make him a very influential person to know. Though you will rarely find him in Christobal’s Tavern, it's not for a distaste of drinking, but rather the thin animosity between the two men that has been a topic of town gossip for the past year.
Josephine
Dame of Castle McCleary
Knight (retired)

A cornerstone of Law and Justice, the Lady Knight McCleary is a Kingdom renowned hero that managed to survive her adventuring years and settle into a quiet life of leadership afterwards, in spite of the odds. Unfortunately, the years weighed heavily upon her and the balance of the Dame’s mind has begun to slip. She relies on few trusted advisors to aid in running her castle, but maintains control of local authority in the militia and judicial systems as needed.

How to roll

Ingress uses the "d6 to Hit" system, created by the mods in order to add some randomization to how things happen at Ingress.
d6 to Hit: results
Roll a d6, the number you get means...

1- Significant Failure
2,3 - Failure
4,5 - Success
6 - Great Success

{link to an online dice roller}

These failures and successes are relative to what you think your character can accomplish. The Hulk getting a Great Success and Frodo getting a Great Success are going to mean very different things.

You will be using this tool to resolve conflicts in three main ways:
1. Game Battles in Adventures (Required)

Whenever your character is involved with a battle on an adventure that is mod-run, you will need to roll dice to determine whether or not your character has successfully executed an action.
ex: Did the Sherlock successfully intuit who the killer is?
ex: Did Spock successfully nerve pinch the bartender?
ex: Did Natasha Romanoff successfully charm her way past the guard?

If two PCs are decide to fight each other, both players must first agree to everything that will happen to their characters. If permission is given, then characters will both roll, and whoever has the higher number wins. If both characters roll the same number, whoever is defending wins.
ex: Spock wants to nerve pinch Jim
First, the Jim-mun gives the Spock-mun permission for this to happen. Then:
If Spock rolls a 5 to nerve pinch, and Jim rolls a 4 to defend, Spock wins.
If Spock rolls a 5 to nerve pinch, and Jim rolls a 5 to defend, Jim gets away.

2. Character Challenges (Optional)
When your character isn't participating in a mod-run battle, feel free to use this system to figure out whether or not your character is successful at any given task. This is totally optional on your part.

Setting

{the current setting as of July 1st, 2014}

Trowbridge

A quiet village with a small local population of mostly Human farmers and various town essentials. Located a short distance from Castle McCleary; Trowbridge is most famously known for being occasionally pestered by Dire Badgers.

...until the recent influx of Outworlders began to arrive, that is.

Now this small town is scrambling to accommodate and train people in the ways of the Kingdom. If you have any questions, locals will refer you to your assigned Ingress Representatives.

Rules

1. This is only a game. Don’t be an ass.

Have fun, play nice with others. What happens IC should not be reflected OOCly and vice versa. If there is an issue that cannot be resolved by players, it can be taken to the mods, however please remember that Mods reserve the right to ban anyone at anytime.

2. Activity

Checks for activity will be done monthly. Players are required to respond to AC with at least 2 threads of substance, or one open post per character. The tagged activity cannot be between the same two characters, nor will any threads involving NPCs count towards the activity check.

In addition to linking your threads, a brief explanation of your character's experience in the game covering the month, whether they made any progress, regress, or stagnation towards their goals. This is encouraged but not required.

3. Does The Rolling Help? Why do I have to do this?

Looking for an explanation of the dice rolling mechanic? Go here.

For the majority of situations, using the dice rolling mechanic will be optional. Exceptions to this will include any organized adventure threads, and posts done by other people who request it. (combat and skill checks are typical uses of the randomizing rolls) The reason behind the addition of dice rolling is to include a chance for success or failure outside of direct player control. Allowing for challenges and reactions that you might not typically try. Also, it’s just a heck of a lot of fun.

4. ) You must be this tall to ride.

All players and characters must be 18 or older, and must have a statement of this in the profile of their journal.

5. This is a PG13 rated community for reasons of violence and language only. No smut on any of the main communities will be allowed, please take adult CR to journals.
